Do's and Don'ts: Working the Part-time Job Fair

The Auburn University Career Center is hosting the annual Part-Time Job Fair tomorrow, August 24, 2011 from 10am-1pm in the Student Center Ballroom. All Auburn students are invited and encouraged to attend. Review the following tips that we pulled from the Tigers Prepare archives to make the most of your job fair visit.

DO dress appropriately. For today, business casual attire is encouraged.

DO interact with the employers. When you get the chance, you should ask questions about the employers and the job openings.

DO create a professional resume. For more information about writing an effective resume, utilize the Career Center Career Handbook which includes resume writing tips as well as sample resumes for you to refer to. You are also welcome to visit our office in 303 Mary Martin Hall. Our staff members will be happy to help you with your resume. We hold walk-in hours (no appointment needed) from 12 – 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Always have someone proofread your resume before passing it out to employers!

DO some networking. This will provide you with options in the future. Additionally, make friends with fellow job seekers.

DON’T waste time with employers which you don’t see yourself working for. Maximize the time you have.

DON’T leave your resume on the employer’s table without taking the opportunity to mingle with them. Network and learn more about their background.

DON’T be impatient. Because of the numerous job applicants with you, there’s a possibility that you might not get an answer concerning your application any time soon.

I hope many of you will be able to attend the Part-Time Job Fair! To check out the employers who will be attending today, Click Here
