Navigating the Blog Bog

I’m always looking for new perspectives on career growth for young professionals and tips for the job search, but often it can be difficult to find active and reliable websites and blogs to follow. To help you sort through the seemingly endless list of possibilities, I have amassed a list of some of my favorites.

1.The Savvy Intern at YouTern

YouTern specializes in internship postings for startup companies and non-profit organizations, and it also runs a blog with a ton of great internship and professional development information. Chock full of specific suggestions for being successful in your job or internship search, the Savvy Intern’s posts are informative and engaging with a definite focus on Gen Y.

2.Pretty Young Professional
I learned about this site from The Savvy Intern and have been following ever since. PYP focuses on every aspect of a young professional woman’s life from career development to educational advancement to personal relationships. It is great to see a website that promotes well-rounded development in young women.

3.Lindsay Pollack
Dubbed the “next generation career expert,” Lindsay Pollack, is an excellent source on career trends and professional development topics for young professionals. Her website is colorful and easy to navigate with an active blog, videos, and books targeted to Gen Y.

4.Personal Branding Blog
Have you worked on your personal brand? Creator Dan Schwabel builds off of his successful book, Me 2.0, and the idea of developing your own brand with this blog that includes input from many different contributors. In addition to the blog, this website has compiled a Starter Guide to help acquaint readers with the concept of personal branding.

5.New Grad Life
Filled with catchy professional development topics that have been boiled down into 5,7,or possibly 9 easy tips/steps, the New Grad Life blog is targeted specifically at, you guessed it, new grads. The contributors offer job search advice as well as financial management tips to help ease the transition from college to career.

Of course there are and will be many more blogs covering similar topics, but these five are a great start and appear to have some longevity. Do you have a favorite that is not on this list? Let us know!
